Founded by Pedro Campos Costa in 2007, CCA, Campos Costa Arquitetos, is renowned for its transdisciplinary approach to architecture. In a significant move in 2020, the studio relocated from Lisbon’s Baixa district to the vibrant Anjos neighborhood, embracing a new office model characterized by direct engagement with the street.
Embracing Transformation
Situated at Rua de Cabo Verde 17A, the studio occupies the site of a former bread factory, artfully repurposed to reflect its evolving identity. The entrance hall, once the bakery shop, now serves as a welcoming gateway to the Campos Costa Arquitetos office, symbolizing the transition from production to creativity. The Antecâmara project, initiated in February 2021, introduces Rádio and Galeria Antecâmara, a dynamic space designed for discourse and exploration, aimed at challenging and redefining perceptions of urban life.
Respecting Heritage, Inspiring Innovation
The studio’s transformation involved the careful preservation and reinterpretation of the industrial heritage embedded within the space. The former manufacturing area, now housing the CCA office, showcases two magnificent vaulted ovens repurposed as a meeting room and model room. Large windows facing the street flood the space with natural light, while the renovation accentuates the industrial aesthetic, paying homage to the building’s storied past.
Creating Dynamic Spaces
The layout of Antecâmara naturally divides the space into distinct zones, catering to diverse functions within the studio. A public area facilitates exhibitions, events, and workshops, fostering interaction with the broader community. Meanwhile, a private office area offers a secluded workspace conducive to focused creativity. A striking red rail curtain serves as a flexible divider, allowing for seamless adaptation and privacy as needed, enhancing the versatility of the atelier.
